A rustic retreat nestled deep in the heart of Australia’s Kangaroo Valley region
…it’s the best Airbnb we’ve ever stayed in. The highlight was having a hot tub under a starry night sky before falling into the comfiest cloud-like bed of all time.

Sustainability
Echoing the beauty of the Australian landscape, the Aframe was designed by Ben Gray Architect to utilise recycled building materials throughout. Re-milled telegraph poles (that lived a former life lining a suburban Sydney street) form the heart and soul of our home, as 150-year-old terracotta roof shingles are reimagined into bathroom floor tiles and native Australian hardwoods and Aussie-made raw brass fixtures complement each other throughout. Off the grid from some town services, rainwater is collected in our 90,000-litre tank. Although Aframe boasts a petite footprint, its interior has been thoughtfully designed to utilise light, position and quality materials to maximise space, all the while maintaining authentic cabin cosiness.
Location
Nestled between the South Coast and Southern Highlands (and only a two-hour drive from both Sydney and Canberra) Aframe Kangaroo Valley is sheltered by Morton National Park to the east and west, with sweeping views of the Southern Highlands escarpment and waterfalls to the north. You’ll find us situated in a quiet rural setting, less than 10 minutes’ drive from historic Hampden Bridge and the village of Kangaroo Valley. Here, enjoy coffee and lunch at The General Café or Hampden Deli, shop for great vintage buys at Valley Vintage or boutique homewares and fashion at The Hive KV, visit The Friendly Inn for classic pub fair, or collect provisions from the General Store and return to Aframe and eat-in as the last light hits the escarpment.
Purpose
Aframe Kangaroo Valley is where we go to reset, reflect, and connect with nature. The interiors, designed by Sophie Lord Studio, are intentionally pared back and have a slow pace in mind. With a focus on responsible consumerism, Aframe has been outfitted with only the essentials, sourced predominantly from locally owned businesses. From the Pop & Scott couch and Pampa textiles to the Australian owned and made Nectre fireplace, Aframe takes great pride in showcasing high quality wares of some fantastic Aussie-owned businesses. After a day of bushwalking some great nearby trails or kayaking down beautiful Kangaroo River, returning to the cabin’s pared back luxury makes the perfect day’s end.
